Open Letter to Bethesda.

Hey everyone. With all the hate and negativity surround Fallout 4 and Bethesda, I felt I had to say something. I wrote an open letter to Bethesda this morning with ATTN to Todd Howard. It may fall on deaf ears, but I felt it needed to be said. I’m going to share that letter with all of you, and I’d like to know your thoughts on the matter. Feel free to leave comments with your thoughts.

Hi,

You don’t know me, but my name is Maxwell Grayson. I run a small gaming blog called Gaming with Grayson. There was a time when I reviewed Fallout 4 and felt that it was a building simulator with a Fallout game built around it, like it was almost an afterthought. However, the more I play it the more I’ve grown to enjoy it.

I’m not a builder. I don’t like how the building system is forced on you, but I accept it based on the situation of the SS. I have ideas, like everybody, on things that could improve it for people like me, like building blueprints to auto-build it, etc. That’s not what this letter is about.

What this letter is about, is the fact that Fallout 4 and Bethesda in general have gotten so much flak for this game, that it’s ridiculous. You’re getting more flak than Mass Effect 3’s ending, which was also unwarranted, in my opinion.

When the Season Pass price was announced that it was going to be raised in one month, people freaked out. You aren’t the first to do it, and it was never met with flak before. I agree with the price increase, and you gave people an entire month to find $30. That was more than fair, and you didn’t have to do that.

Then Automatron released. It’s a great DLC, I love it. The story is good, the companion you gain and the robots you can build are fun to play with. The new settlement is huge, indoors, and can have supply lines. It shows you listened to us. That you care about the community. I appreciate that.

Now Wasteland Workshop is out. The amount of negativity surrounding this is amazingly ridiculous, and I’m sorry that the community that you love so much is being so toxic. Honestly, it makes me ashamed to classify as a gamer. I am not one of the self-entitled gamers. You are putting out content that is worth more than you are charging. I know what it takes to make assets, what it takes to add new mechanics and quests. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication. Its a labor of love, not of money.

If I don’t like something, I stop for a week and think about why I don’t like it, and try to look at it a new way. I will be re-reviewing Fallout 4 after Far Harbor releases and adjusting my original statements.

I just want to say, keep doing what you’re doing. Not everybody hates you. Not everybody feels the way the toxic people do. I am very happy with the Season Pass purchase I made. I am very happy you are continually giving us more content. I look forward to Far Harbor and the future DLC beyond that.

Powerman 5000 said it best, Just do your thing. So, just do your thing, Bethesda. You have supporters.

Thank you for listening,
